Painted from the balcony of the missionary couple I stayed with while in Madrid, Spain. This and the other rooftop painting were incredibly challenging. The light shifts so fast, and the scene is so complex that it took many sessions at the same hour of the day over the course of the week to complete, if the weather and skies allowed it. Swallows swirled overhead, too tiny to paint, but ever entertaining in their tight, circular patterns of aerial acrobatics.
The painting will hang in Hector's house, my host from my time in Spain. A larger 40x30 inch version of this painting is in progress.
